Chellanam panchayath in Ernakulam is turning out to be a large containment zone, as the results of 35 people have turned positive. With this, the total number of people confirmed by Kovid in the Panchayath has gone up to 83. Yesterday, the samples of 15 people turned positive. Going in line with the official statements, steps are being taken to conduct more Covid inspections in the area. Tests are currently being conducted on those on the primary contact list and those at high risk, while the inspections of five wards have been completed in four wards, where the spread of the disease was high. It is suspected that Chellanam Harbor is the epicenter of the disease. The health department and the district administration are on high alert that strict restrictions had been put in place and the restrictions are expecting to get tightened in the coming days.
The news was divulged by Minister VS Sunilkumar. He also added that these new patients were fresh cases and can’t be counted as part of previous days’ figures. Earlier, MP Hibi Eden and several others alleged that the government was concealing actual figures. While commenting on the current situation in Chellanam, Minister VS Sunilkumar said that those who turned positive, have been immediately admitted to the hospital and assured of treatment. Maintaining that a mobile medical team would be operating in the area, Minister also mentioned about a Rapid Response Team, which is comprised of government employees of the panchayat.
