Heavy rains lash in South Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram witnessed unabated rains amid the scorching summer bringing some relief to the people today. The capital city also experienced strong winds and lightning. Some other cities in the state also received rainfall.

Due to incessant rainfall, waterlogging was reported from many parts of Thiruvananthapuram including Thampanoor. Similarly, in some places trees were uprooted due to strong winds. Flex hoardings were also collapsed in some places.

South Kerala received heavy rainfall due to high winds blowing from the Komarin region in the Bay of Bengal. The rain started in the afternoon and continued for hours. Heavy rains lashed the city of Thiruvananthapuram and hilly areas and also in Kollam. Traffic was disrupted and a tree fell on the premises of the official residence of Minister GR Anil.

The shutters of the Aruvikkara Dam were opened. In Chadayamangalam, Kollam district, due to strong wind and rain, rubber trees fell on the roof of a house and the roof collapsed. In Kottarakkara and Karavalur, a tree fell on the roof of the house and caused extensive damage.

Ernakulam, Thrissur and Idukki lower range will also receive heavy rains tonight. Rainfall will be dry in North Kerala. It will rain similarly in the afternoon for the next few days. There are also chances of isolated heavy rainfall.
