ISRO to launch 36 OneWeb satellites onboard GSLV Mk-III on October 23

Hyderabad: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch its rocket carrying 36 satellites of the United Kingdom’s Global Communication Network OneWeb on October 23, reported IANS. The satellites will be launched on Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV MkIII) at 12.07 am from Satish Dhawan Space Center of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

The cryogenic engine stage and the equipment bay assembly have reportedly been completed. Meanwhile, satellites have been encapsulated and assembled in the rocket. Final checks are currently underway.

Notably, Network Access Associated Ltd (OneWeb) signed two contracts with NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL), the commercial arm of the ISRO for launching its broadband communication satellites in low earth orbit.

OneWeb is a London-based global communications network powered by a constellation of 648 low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. The company enables high-speed, low latency connectivity for governments, businesses, and communities everywhere around the world.

With this launch, the company will have over 70 per cent of its planned Gen 1 Low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation in orbit.
