Kerala govt orders removal of Governor as chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam deemed-to-be-university

Kerala government on Thursday ordered the removal of Governor Arif Mohammad Khan as the chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam deemed-to-be-university.

As per the act, since the Kerala government is the sponsor of Kalamandalam, they can appoint the chancellor. Governor was appointed as chancellor in 2015 through an executive order and now this has been amended by the state government.

A renowned person from the relevant field will replace Khan.

The state cabinet had earlier decided to promulgate an ordinance to remove the governor as chancellor of state universities. However, the Governor will not give assent to the ordinance. In this case, the Governor’s signature is not required as Kalamandalam is a deemed-to-be-university.
