The Kerala government has legalised production of light alcohol from selected agricultural items. Excise Minister MB Rajesh informed that Kerala small scale winery rules 2022 has been effective after imbibing amendments suggested by subject committee of the state legislative.
As per the new legislation, fruits like jackfruit, mango, banana and cashew can be used to produce low content alcohol. However, cereals cannot be used for the purpose.
According to the government, this move will aid farmers earn more money from their agricultural produce and create more job opportunities.
