‘Lost one of the pillars of left unity’: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan recalls

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Kanam Rajendran has lost one of the pillars of Left unity.

The demise of Comrade Kanam is shocking. Kanam Rajendran made unparalleled contributions in strengthening the Communist Party, strengthening working class unity, protecting democratic movements, and protecting secular values.

One of the undisputed leaders of Kerala who emerged through student organization activities, Kanam has always remained the strength and voice of Niswajanpaksha. As a strong trade union leader, Kanam has always been keen on upholding the unity of the workers and their common demands.

His experience of being at the forefront of student and youth labor movements at various stages laid a great foundation for his work as CPI State Secretary.

During his tenure as a member of the Legislative Assembly, he presented the burning issues of people’s life in the House with all seriousness. Made significant contributions to matters including legislation. Stand on the side of the oppressed. Kanam was distinguished in various capacities as a prominent legislator, a strong organizer, a great orator and a party propagandist.

He also always focused on strengthening the relationship between the CPI and the CPI(M). On a personal note, many memories of working together in the political arena for many decades come to mind at this moment. Many have an emotional touch. Let’s just say that Kanam was a close friend and comrade.

Kanam’s demise adds to its poignancy at a time when the unity of left democratic secular movements is the greatest need of the hour. This is an irreparable loss. We have lost a leader who stood for the interests of Kerala in the demise of Comrade Kanam Rajendran.

This is Kerala’s general loss, not the Left’s. Kerala has lost a selfless political leader. Condolences to CPI and his family and friends. The Chief Minister also expressed his condolences to the people of Kerala.
