Seven soldiers die unfortunately after army vehicle falls into Shyok river in Ladakh

In a very unfortunate incident, seven Indian soldiers died and several others were injured after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell in Shyok river sector of Ladakh. The vehicle fell to a depth of around 50-60 feet.

“A party of 26 soldiers was moving from the transit camp in Partapur to a forward location in Sub Sector Hanif. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell in Shyok river, resulting in injuries to all occupants,” the Indian Army said in a statement.

They were soon evacuated to an army field hospital and surgical teams from Leh were rushed to Partapur. However, seven soldiers succumbed to injuries later.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the incident. Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope those injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being given to the affected.”
