The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined the plea of the local self-governments from Kerala for permission to kill rabid stray dogs.
The top court transferred the individual cases on stray dog attacks to the High Court. SC also assured to hear in detail the policy matters on controlling the population of stray dogs in Kerala, in next February.
Kerala had also sought to vacate the stay order of high court on permission to Kudumbashree units to sterilise stray dogs. SC directed to file a separate plea on this matter.
SC said the petitioners can approach the HC on cases of cruelty against the animal by violating the rules.
