Swapana and Sandeep tested negative for Covid-19; NIA seeking custody

The accused in the Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case, Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair, have no Covid. Both were tested negative for Covid. Their samples were collected at the Aluva Hospital on Sunday morning. Swapna & Sandeep remanded for three days at Covid Care Centers in Thrissur and Karukutty respectively.

The case was taken up by NIA special judge P. Krishnakumar . Both were remanded in custody for three days pending the outcome of their covid examination. Sandeep & Swapna were taken into custody by the NIA last night in a flat in Bengaluru. They were brought to the Kochi NIA office on Sunday afternoon. A lawyer has also been made available for the accused by the court.

The NIA court is scheduled to hear the plea on Monday. NIA wanted them custody for 10 days from Monday. The smuggled gold is believed to have been used, including for terrorist activities. The NIA said in its custody application that the relationship between the two should be examined.
