The death toll is rising after the landslides. 13 dead bodies were recovered from the Chaliyar River in the neighboring district of Malappuram Pothukal Munderi. The body of a three-year-old child washed ashore first. The dead bodies were washed away in the mountain stream. The landslides occurred twice in Mundakai and Churalmala areas at 1:30 AM and 4:00 AM. The landslide has washed away the bridge connecting Mundakai and Churalmala. Rescue workers are unable to reach Mundakai as the bridge has collapsed. Former Panchayat President K.K. Three people under the leadership of Sahad and Panchayat President Babu are trying to reach Mundakai through another route through the forest. It is reported that many families are trapped in the area. NDRF is making efforts for that.
Vellarmala School is located on the right side of Churalmala town. One building of the school was partially washed away and the foundations of another building were completely swept away. All the classrooms were destroyed. Churalmala Puzha was a small river that flowed beside Vellarmala School. But with the break of the rock, the river is four times larger than before and is flowing through the school grounds. Large pieces of rock are all over the ground.
