Samsung announced the hotly-anticipated Galaxy Z Fold5 and the Galaxy Z Flip5 yesterday at its Galaxy Unpacked event. Today, the South Korean giant revealed the Indian prices of the smartphones.
In a nutshell, the price of the Galaxy Z Fold5 remains the same as its predecessor, but it’s the Z Flip5’s price that makes us question whether the phone is worth getting over excellent alternatives such as the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra and the Oppo Find N2 Flip. Let’s find out.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5’s Price
Starting with the Z Fold5, Samsung’s foldable smartphone offers three variants with different configurations. It comes with 12GB of RAM and internal storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, priced at ₹1,54,999, ₹1,64,999, and ₹1,84,999, respectively. The color options available are Icy Blue, Cream, and Phantom Black.
If you currently own the Galaxy Z Fold4, there is no incentive to splurge on this year’s upgrade to the Galaxy Z Fold5. The primary differentiating features are the inclusion of the newer Flex Hinge, enabling a gap-free closure, and the introduction of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor. Apart from these updates, the two smartphones remain largely alike.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5’s Price
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5’s hallmark feature is the new folder-shaped cover display dubbed the Flex Window. Apart from that, the clamshell also picks up the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy.
Coming to the price, the Galaxy Z Flip5 starts at Rs. 99,999 for the 256GB variant, while the 512GB is priced at Rs. 1,09,999. There is no 128GB variant this time around.
Comparing the price with the Z Flip4, which currently retails for Rs. 94,999 for the 256GB variant on Samsung’s official site, the Z Flip5 costs Rs. 5,000 more, making the clamshell a rupee shy of the lakh mark.
The price of the Z Flip5 is concerning as the market now has flip phones that can serve as excellent alternatives. The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is the best candidate here as it’s a whopping Rs. 10,000 less than the Z Flip5, costing Rs. 89,999 on Amazon.
Even though the Razr 40 Ultra packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, it sports a bigger, higher resolution, and faster cover display. Not to mention, the selfie camera of the Razr 40 Ultra looks stronger on paper at 32MP compared to the 10MP on the Z Flip5.
Comparing with the Oppo Find N2 Flip, the Chinese smartphone also costs Rs. 89,999 like the Moto, and it brings a much higher resolution primary camera at 50MP, a selfie camera at 32MP, and a much bigger battery at 4,300mAh.
Is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 Worth Getting?
If you’re a die-hard Samsung fan, then of course, go for the Galaxy Z Flip5. But if not, take a moment to look at the market as there are some interesting flip phones this time around.
The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is a pretty sweet smartphone with the biggest cover display to boot. Also, it’s much cheaper than the Z Flip5. The Oppo Find N2 Flip is also a much cheaper offering with a strong suit of cameras on paper and a much bigger battery.
Samsung could’ve priced the phone a bit better, as, without offers and trade-ins into the mix, the clamshell looks to be a tough sell in the highly competitive market right now.
