Mani Ratnam directorial Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan 1 will be released in theatres on September 30. The historical period drama will have an OTT release as well. According to reports, the digital streaming rights for the film has been bagged by Amazon Prime Video for Rs 125 crore, according to reports.
The total budget for the two parts of the film is said to be Rs 500 crores, of which already 25% is recovered by the producer from the streaming rights sale. The franchise is bankrolled by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies & Lyca Productions.
An A.R. Rahman musical, the film’s camera is handled by Ravi Varman. ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ cast comprises Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Rahman, Ashwin, Vikram Prabhu and others. The film will also mark Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s return to the silver screen after 4 years. She will be enacting Nandini/Mandakini’s character in this film.
The magnum opus by Mani Ratnam is based on a famous historical Tamil novel of same title written by Kalki Krishnamurthy.
