According to latest reports, actor-producer Vijay Babu has stepped down from the Executive Board of AMMA, following the demand of the other members. Vijay Babu soon handed over the letter of consent to AMMA.
The decision was taken at a meeting of AMMA’s Available Executive Committee convened today. General Secretary Edavela Babu said the decision was unanimous. But Vijay Babu will continue to be a member of Amma.
AMMA’s decision came as a result of the ongoing investigation against Vijay Babu over alleged rape cases charged on him. The meeting was chaired by Vice President Maniyan Pillai Raju, in the absence of Mohanlal, who is in Goa in connection with the shooting of Barroz.
Prior to the meeting of the Available Executive, AMMA sought the report of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). The ICC was ready to wait until the court’s final verdict in the sexual assault case against Vijay Babu. However, the ICC found that revealing the victim’s name on social media is a blatant violation of the law. This was communicated to the Executive Committee in writing. Following this, the Amma Available Executive Committee immediately decided to remove Vijay Babu. Shwetha Menon is the chairperson of ICC. Her tough stance is also known to have led to action against Vijay Babu.
