Chennai: The Tamil Nadu State Film Awards 2015 have been announced. Madhavan won the Best Actor award for his performance in the film 'Iruti Sutru'. Jyothika is the best actress. The movie '36 Vayathinile' made Jyothika eligible for the award.
'Thani Oruvan' starring Jayam Ravi is the best film. Sudha Konkara who made 'Iruti Sutru' is the best director.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu government started giving film awards for the first time in 1967. It was discontinued in 2008 due to problems.
Later Vishal took the initiative to bring back the awards. After Vishal won the election to the Producers Council, he demanded that the award be brought back.
Vishal also approached the government to introduce state awards. After that, the award ceremony was also held in 2017. The awards were given in that year for films released between 2009 and 2014.
