Earlier in September this year, we saw Google rolling out the ‘Tez’ app – for UPI. Well, within this small span of time, the app has managed to secure 12M+ user base. In terms of transactional volume, ‘Tez’ has clocked 140 million+ since its launch. Now, that figure is sure to excite Google India, and frighten opponents. With ‘Tez’ moving onto bill payments, it is sure to change the existing industry equations, which is led by the likes of Flipkart’s PhonePe and Paytm. In line with Google, we are on the verge of seeing more such initiatives from global tech giants. WhatsApp is reportedly entering the initiative, while Amazon is on the testing phase of working through the UPI channel.
