Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that the government plans to double the number of airports in the country. The plan is to increase the number of airports in the country to more than 200 by 2023-24. Jyotiraditya Scindia told a meeting of state ministers in charge of aviation that the Center was planning to set up at least one helipad in each district in collaboration with the states and union territories.
The Union Minister also demanded that the state governments provide capital support to enterprises on the issue of seaplanes. He also called on the states to reduce VAT on fuel, which bears the lion’s share of operating costs in the aviation sector. This will greatly reduce operating costs in the aviation sector. India currently has one of the highest rates of VAT on aviation fuel.
