Kochi: Four students died in a stampede during a tech fest at the Kochi University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) campus in Kalamasery. Two boys and two girls died. 64 people were injured.
The bodies of the deceased are in the Kalamesari Medical College Hospital. 46 injured people are undergoing treatment at Kalamasery Medical Hospital and 18 are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Two people are in critical condition.
The incident took place on Saturday around 7 pm during the song festival held in the open air auditorium of the campus. A song mela was organized by the famous singer Nikita Gandhi.
There were many students in the auditorium where the program was held. It rained while the students and others were enjoying the program by dancing and celebrating.
As the rain started, many people, including outsiders, rushed into the auditorium. In the meantime, others fell on top of the students who fell down the stairs in a hurry.
