Kuwait City: The National Assembly’s legislative and legislative committee approved the draft expat quota bill as constitutional. As the bill was to be submitted to the respective committee, it was decided to prepare a comprehensive plan. This will limit the foreign population to the same as the native population. With this, the Indian population will not be allowed to rise above 15%. It is estimated that about 8 lakh Indians will be excluded from Kuwait. There are 14.5 lakh Indians here at this time.

Indians are the largest expat community in Kuwait. In the early days of Covid, many lawyers and government officials in the country raised their voice against Kuwait’s growing expat presence. Last month, Kuwait Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah called on the expatriate population from 70 per cent to 3 per cent of the country’s population. The current population of Kuwait is 43 lakh. Of these, 1.3 million are indigenous and 30 million are foreigners.
