Malayalees have a special love for actor Salim Kumar. In an interview given to Kaumudi channel, he has told how he got the name Salim Kumar. Let’s see what brother Ayyappan has to do with my life. My name itself is the biggest example of that. The youths of that time were attracted by the casteist and revolutionary activities of their brother Ayyappan and started naming their own children with caste-unrecognizable names. For example my name is Salim. The names Jalil, Jamal and Nashad started being given to Hindu children especially Ezhava children.

So I was named Salim. It can also be said that Kumar came with the name, he went to enroll in Chitatupura LPS with the name Salim. When asked what is the child’s name, he said Salim. Then they said that this is not a Hindu child because of the name problem. Father also did not understand about the same. There the teachers said that it is enough to add Kumar to the name. So adding Kumar made me a Hindu. I was Muslim till 5th grade. After 5th standard, I became a vast Hindu

He was the youngest of eight children. We did not write anyone’s horoscope. Why they don’t even know the time of birth. When I had my son I wanted to write my horoscope. So I asked my mother about the date of birth, but she did not remember. Finally, I met Janardhan Chetan and told him about it. He said what is computer horoscope and can correct it. So I got a horoscope by telling the stars and kollams. It has clearly said that I will be a film actor and mime artist. I was shocked. I also wrote my son’s horoscope. It was that he would become a doctor. I was happy. Because my horoscope was correct. But my son is currently studying for LLB. Janardanan Chetan will tell you that Salim Kumar’s horoscope should be written. So don’t tell who it is when you go to write the horoscope. Sometimes they write everything down.
