Anjali Amir is a well-known actor to Malayalees. Transgender actress and activist Anjali Amir protested against the special state award for women and transgender categories. Anjali Amir asked that if there is no transgender, it is not enough to give the award to others in that category. Last time the award in this category was won by Shruti Saranya and this year Shalini Ushadevi. Following this, Anjali Ameer came out with a protest. I am Anjali Ameer. My heartiest congratulations to all the state awardees today. I have come here to talk about a relatively important matter. After all, I am also a person who was nominated for a state award in the transgender category. That’s why I felt the need to speak up. As a matter of fact, there are now separate awards for women and men in many categories such as best female lead or female lead, supporting actress and so on.”

Meanwhile, I don’t think there is any need to include a transgender woman or any other woman in the transgender category. Or what I don’t understand is why the government is including transgender in a special category just to make a farce like this. In 2022, a child named Neha from Chennai was given an award in the transgender category for the movie ‘Anthanam’. Apart from that, no year has been given in this way. Our entire community is being nurtured. Last year Priya was there and I was there, so we have acted in several films. Even then the award was given to women.”
In a context where so many awards are given individually to men and women, why is it a farce to invite an award nomination that includes a transgender-woman? Then why give this award to other women. If so I don’t think there is any need to categorize this award. I felt that we should not talk about this, directors may come forward to make films with a transgender woman or man. This results in a situation where even their motivation is lost. So what I want to ask the government is, is it not enough to give an award to a woman only if there is no transgender in the transgender category? I have to ask why this farce. I do not agree with doing such a class act. Such an award could have been thought of and there was no need to struggle like this. My film “Spoils” was considered for the award. It was essentially a well-made film that received good responses. I believe I did well.
