When PM Narendra Modi launched Umang (Unified Mobile Application for New – Age Governance), many have confused it with that many other services launched by the govt. earlier, like that of BHIM app. Well, for starters, Umang is an app developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, along with National e – Governance Division. The application, which is available across platforms of Android, iOS, is in fact aimed at adding an automatic layer of ‘peer performance pressure’ in the working of govt. departments, which are involved in the process.
In fact, Umang would be functioning as an umbrella to keep all the initiatives earlier propounded by the central govt. such as Aadhaar, DigiLocker, PayGov. What appears to be different for Umang from similar apps, is the way in which it supports Aadhaar and other authentication procedures. Through the application, govt. aims to provide platform for citizens to access the following information – income tax filing, LPG cylinder booking, Provident Fund account etc. Further making things clear, the application even would be useful for parents to check their children’s CBSE result as well. Right now, Umang App is available in 10 Indian languages.
How it works?
The application supports all the devices running on Android 4.4 and above as well as iOS 8.0 and later versions. What you need to do is to install the Umang application in your smartphone and register your mobile number. It can be completed using the OTP received in your mobile at the time of registration. Further to ensure security, you will be asked some security questions as well, which will be used to identify the user. Once the registration process is complete, then Umang asks you to set up an MPIN, which along with your mobile number, will be used for logging in the application. For further elaborating the services, Umang helps you integrating your social media accounts with the application.
