Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal had a lucky escape after the tyre of his official Innova car burst at Kuravankonam in Thiruvananthapuram district on Friday night. His SUV deviated out of control and came to a shrieking halt.
A major mishap was averted as the Innova was running at a speed of only 20 kmph. The Minister then continued his journey in another vehicle.
According to reports, the vehicle’s poor maintenance was the cause of the incident. Several Ministers, including the Chief Minister, had moved to a new vehicle. However, Balagopal remained in his Innova. The old SUV has run over 2 lakh kilometres so far.
In view of the economic situation in Kerala, the Finance Minister opted to continue using his old vehicle for official purposes.
