The Adani group has sought government intervention to end the Vizhinjam port strike. A report has been produced before the Chief Secretary asking for a settlement of the strike by including the losses suffered.
According to the report submitted, they are unable to bring stones to continue the construction work, which has come to a halt over the last 53 days. So far, Rs 100 crore have been spent on the construction of the port. The impact of the strike will affect the project for six months, cited the report.
Earlier, the High Court had ordered to raze the strike pandal in Vizhinjam. At the same time, Minister Ahammad Devarkovil responded that the concern of Adani Group will be taken into account.
Hearing a contempt petition filed by Adani Group, promoters of the country’s first mother ship project terminal, the court said the ongoing work should not be disrupted at any cost and complaints regarding the project can be raised at appropriate forums.
The group had insisted that the “ongoing protest was a threat to its employees and police had failed to take action” against protesters. It said large tents put up by protesters were blocking the entrance and work was disrupted for about two months. The court then directed the government to remove tents immediately.
