Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar on Monday announced that he has started shooting for his next film, a Hindi remake of the Tamil film “Soorarai Pottru”, which starred Suriya in the lead role. The untitled film will be directed by Sudha Kongara, who also helmed the original film. Radhika Madan has been paired opposite Akshay Kumar.
Akshay Kumar took to social media and wrote, “With the auspicious coconut-breaking and a small prayer in our heart, we begin the filming of our yet untitled film which is about dreams and the power of it. In case you’ll have any title suggestions, do share and of course your best wishes.”

The much-acclaimed film is produced by Suriya himself and the actor shared a picture with Akshay Kumar to welcome him on board for the Hindi remake. This would be Suriya’s debut Hindi film as a producer as he is bankrolling under his production house 2D entertainments.

“Soorarai Pottru (Praise the brave)” is a fictionalized account of the life of the retired Army Captain. G. R. Gopinath, who founded the low-cost airline, Air Deccan.

It was selected as one among ten Indian films to be screened under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. Soorarai Pottru received acclaim from critics, who praised the major technical aspects of the film, while also appreciating the writing, Suriya’s performance and Sudha’s direction.
