Thrissur: A protest program organized by the Youth Congress against the cutting of banyan trees in Thekinkad Maidan after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Thrissur ended in a clash.
The clash started when the BJP workers stopped the Youth Congress workers who came to the Maidan to protest.
The Youth Congress is criticizing that earlier when they tried to cut branches of banyan trees for the security of some programs, those who stopped them have now destroyed the banyan tree for the Prime Minister.
The Youth Congress announced a strike under the name of ‘Manishada’ on this issue. But the BJP workers say that KSU tried to sprinkle dung water on the stage where Modi participated.
BJP said that they will not allow dung water to be sprinkled. But the Youth Congress said that theirs was a fair protest. Youth Congress states that the reason for the protest is the cutting of a banyan tree that is years old.
Police are present at the scene of conflict. More workers of both the organizations are coming to the city. BJP wants to arrest the protesting Youth Congress workers. But the Youth Congress demands that the BJP workers be arrested.
