The Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway, built as part of the Greenfield Corridor, will be inaugurated in February. With the opening of this 10-lane stretch, the travel time between Bangalore and Mysore will be reduced to one hour and 20 minutes. Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the road at the end of February.

The 117 km long road has been constructed at a cost of Rs 9000 crore. The road has been constructed in two phases from Bengaluru to Nidagatta and from there to Mysore. The 52-km stretch of five bypasses, which is part of the greenfield project, is expected to solve the traffic congestion in Bengaluru city.

There will also be two lanes on both sides of the road leading to nearby villages. These two lanes will also cater to the transport needs of the villages. The remaining six lanes will remain part of the main road. Currently, the Mysuru-Bengaluru journey takes three to four hours. The project will help reduce this by a third and save fuel consumption.

The minister reviewed the progress of the national highway and other projects on Thursday. He shared the pictures and video of this with people through social media. This will solve traffic congestion in Bengaluru, Gadkari tweeted. He clarified through Twitter that the completion of the project will pave the way for new opportunities and industrial investments. He added that it will also lead to the growth of educational and industrial institutions.

The Union Minister also inspected the construction progress of Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway and Bengaluru Ring Road. The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will be completed by March next year. The 262 km long eight-lane road is being constructed at a cost of Rs 16,730 crore. The route passes through the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The minister said the road will connect the industrial hubs of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and strengthen the economic activities of Bengaluru and Chennai.

With the completion of the line, the distance from Bengaluru to Chennai will be reduced by 40 km and the travel time will be reduced to two hours and 50 minutes. With the completion of the expressway to Mysuru, the travel time will be reduced to one and a half hours. The distance of the road from Kenkeri to Mysore is 118 km. Although the official inauguration was not possible, most of the route has been opened for passengers.

In order to reduce traffic congestion and pollution in Bengaluru, the minister suggested that satellite townships should be established on the roads, Gadkari said.
