Underlining the importance of protecting public health and the economy, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday sought direction from the public to prepare a roadmap for easing restrictions and relaxing the national capital at the end of the third phase of lockdown.
Kejriwal, who advocates more concessions to boost the economy, said that the Delhi government would prepare a proposal, which should be shared with the central government by May 15, based on information from people and experts.
“On the one hand, we need to protect ourselves from corona, take care of our health, and on the other hand the health of our economy. “A lot of people are facing difficulties because of the lockdown,” Kejriwal said, a day after he suggested resuming economic activity across Delhi, excluding its regulatory areas.
In a video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday with all the chief ministers, the Aam Aadmi chief said that he had sought direction from the states and UTs on the post-May 17 arrangements. Kejriwal had also asked the Prime Minister to categorize container zones only as red areas. Not the 11 districts of Delhi.
I would like to know from the people of Delhi whether to rest or not. Lockdowns cannot be raised overall. How much should we make concessions? In what area? Buses or Metro? Autos, cabs? Open schools, markets and industrial areas? Everything should remain under lockdown, what should be reopened? Kejriwal said during a webcast.
Kejriwal said that the Delhi government is expected to send its instructions to the Center by Thursday. “I’m looking for ideas. There will be no voting on the proposals we receive. We are consulting with experts and doctors, ”he added.
