Ernakulam district collector S Suhas declared 10 areas of the district as containment zones. Five of these areas are under the purview of the Kochi Corporation. The new containment zone is the 17th Division of Piravom Municipality, Fifth Ward of Pingottur Panchayat, 43, 44, 46, 55 and 56 Divisions of Kochi Corporation, Eighth Division of Paravur Municipality, 8th Ward of Kadungallur Panchayath and 28th Division of Thrikkakara Municipality.
The Containment Zone has been declared as Palarivattom, Chakkaraparambu, Karanakkodam, Girinagar and Panampilli Nagar divisions of Kochi Corporation. In view of possible social spread in Ernakulam, Champakara market will be closed from tomorrow after it is noticed that the regulations are being violated. Antigen test will be conducted on all foreigners arriving at the airport. Chellanam Harbor has been closed after a fisherman’s wife became Covid positive.
Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain said that in the wake of more corruption cases and the closure of the Ernakulam market, there would be stringent controls on community outreach. He urged political, social and cultural organizations to postpone all public events and agitation in view of the Covid expansion, for at least two more weeks.
