Three people arrested in the case of gang-rape of a differently-abled graduate student. Perampra Inspector Binu Thomas arrested Parappanangadi Nedua Putharikal Taiyilveetil Munir (40), Nedua Alikanakath Zaheer (31) and Nedua Pallikal Prajeesh (41). Zaheer and Prajeesh are auto drivers. One more person is to be arrested in the case. The information about the harassment came to light only after the police found the missing student from Kasaragod on the 21st.
The relevant incident took place on 21st and 22nd of this month. The differently-abled student went to her relative’s house in Pantirangaon from her house in Perampra on 21st. However, it is said that the bus diverted from Kozhikode and reached Parappanangadi. Later reached the railway station from the bus stand. He called Anas, a native of Kannur, on the phone and asked him to accompany him. Anas came from Kannur to Parappanangadi but returned saying that he was married and did not want to accompany him.
It was after this that the accused came to the side of the student and accompanied her on the pretense of helping her. The rape took place in a building in Parappanangadi and in an auto. On the 22nd, he was brought to Tirur railway station in an auto, took 500 rupees and a train ticket and took the train to Kasarkot.
On the night of 22nd, the student reached the Kasaragod railway station and sought the help of the woman there to make a phone call. They became suspicious and informed the railway police. The policemen from the women’s cell came and took her to the station.
The Perampra police had already registered a case on the complaint that the student was missing. On the 24th, the student was produced in the Perampra court and released with her family. Police have identified two autos involved in the incident.
