Varkala: Husband tries to kill wife by pouring kerosene while she was sleeping in Thiruvananthapuram. Her husband Ashokan tried to kill Leela (45) at Aiirur Muthana Ambalathumvila house.
Leela, who suffered 70 percent burns, remains in critical condition in the hospital. He gave a statement to the police that he killed his wife because of his suspicion and fear that she would leave him.
The incident took place in Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram. The incident happened around 1.30 am today. Leela's husband Ashoka suffered a stroke a year ago and his body was weak. Although the treatment was done, he was unable to go to work due to paralysis of one leg.
The family was looked after by his wife Leela who had gone to work. He gave a statement to the police that he killed his wife because of his suspicion and fear that she would leave him.
Leela's daughter and granddaughter were present in the house when the incident took place. It was the daughter who put out the fire by pouring water on it. Hearing the commotion, the locals came running. Leela, who was burnt, was rushed to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital by the locals.
