Malayalam filmmaker K P Kumaran won the JC Daniel Award, the highest honour in Malayalam cinema, for his numerous valuable contributions to the film industry. He bagged the prestigious award comprises Rs 5 lakh, a citation, and a plaque.
KP Kumaran was selected by the jury headed by the popular Indian playback singer P Jayachandran. The award will be presented by Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 3rd.
He made his directorial debut with the Malayalam film ‘Athidhi’ which was released in the year 1975. Kumaran’s directorial film ‘Rugmini’ bagged the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam for the year 1989.
KP Kumaran’s short film ‘Rock’ gained much popularity and adulation from the audience. His most popular works include the films ‘Athidhi’, ‘Rugmini’, ‘Thenthulli’, ‘Laxmivijayam’, ‘Thottam’, and ‘Swayamvaram’.
Kumaran has also co-authored the script of Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s directorial film ‘Swayamvaram’ starring Madhu, Sharada, Adoor Bhavani, KPAC Lalitha, and Thrikkurissy Sukumaran Nair in lead roles.
