While NIA is preparing its armory against the corrupted bureaucrat M Sivasankar, the prime accused in the case, Sarith has given a clean chit to the top bureaucrat, who has entered a long leave from the service. Sarith said that Sivasankar was not part of the operations of the racket; though Sarith maintained that the discussions on gold smuggling took place at the IAS official’s flat in Thiruvananthapuram. When quizzed, Sarith maintained that Sivasankar wasn’t part of these discussions and wasn’t aware of gold smuggling.
Earlier, several of the neighbors of M Sivasankar said that the prime accused in the gold smuggling used to camp at the former IT Secretary’s flat. Anyhow, the Customs Preventive wing would soon question Sivasankar, since he is the rightful owner of the flat, which has set the stages ready for the gold smuggling talks. When probed, Sarith said that he got to know Sivasankar through Swapna. During the interrogation, Sarith revealed that he used to get Rs 10 lakh for each successful assignment; the prime accused in the case added that he used the money for meeting his luxurious life style and clearing financial problems.
