Thiruvananthapuram: The advocate general (AG) gave legal advice to the state government that the verdict pronounced by Supreme Court in September 2018 allowing women entry in Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple need not be implemented as the case has been referred to larger bench of the apex court.

The advocate general will meet the chief minister on Friday for further discussions in this matter. The meeting will be held before noon. The chief minister’s legal adviser N. K. Jayakumar and others also will take part in the meeting.

According to legal advice, as the court had referred the verdict pronounced on September 28, 2018 to a larger bench for reviewing, the government is not liable to implement the 2018 verdict. After getting advice from the AG and the law secretary, the government is also likely to seek legal advice from retired judges or senior lawyers of the supreme court.

It is learnt that the government is not likely to file a petition hastily in the supreme court demanding clarity over the verdict. As Trupti Desai and others declared that they will visit Sabarimala, a legally backed political decision has to be taken. This is why the government sought legal advice.
