Kerala was shocked to hear the news that a one and a half month old baby was killed by her mother’s boyfriend in Elamakara. So far no one has come to claim the baby’s body. Even on Human Rights Day, the baby’s body is frozen in the morgue. The baby was tragically killed in Elamakara last week. Days later, the child’s mother and boyfriend were arrested in the incident. The sad thing is that no one has yet come to claim the baby’s body. That second body is among the many others in the morgue who sleep in freezer boxes piled up after death, never to wake up again. The mother’s male friend was often harassing the child, who had never known love since birth.

It is not known who or where the baby’s father is. When the baby’s body is lying in the mortuary of the medical college after the ice is frozen, the question remains as to who will come next. If no one comes, the orphan will be declared dead. Later, they will be taken from the mortuary to the public cemetery and cremated. The accused were remanded to the court yesterday. The Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate Court remanded both the accused till December 20. Ashwathi, the mother of the accused child, was transferred to Kakkanad Women’s Jail and her friend, Shanif, who killed the baby, was transferred to Aluva Sub Jail. On December 1, Shanif and Ashwathi took a room at the lodge in Elmakkara along with their baby.
He picked up the sleeping baby and put the baby’s head firmly on Shanif’s knee. The baby died of head injuries. After biting the baby, Shanif saw that the baby was not crying and ensured its death. Then Shanif and Aswathi returned to the hospital with the dead baby when it was dawn. The doctor who confirmed the death got suspicious and informed the police.
