The Governor said that he has no problem with Kannur and the rest of the country should also grow up by taking Kannur as an example in this regard. He also clarified that there is no personal objection to Kannur. He said that he was just expressing his sympathy for some past situations.

People including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan came out against the Governor. But the governor was not ready to apologize or respond to the remark. DYFI-SFI activists took to the streets and protested by holding demonstrations and protest meetings. Governor Arif Muhammad Khan’s effigy was also burnt in the new year. Meanwhile, after Kannur won the title in the school arts festival on Monday, the governor came out with an explanation.
