Alappuzha district collector Dr Renu Raj and joint director of health department and managing director of medical services corporation Dr Sriram Venkitaraman tied the knot on Thursday in Chottanikkara. Only close relatives and friends from both sides attended the function.
The duo entered the civil service career after completing their MBBS degree. The couple informed their IAS friends about their decision to get married through WhatsApp.
In 2012, Sriram passed the civil service examination with the second rank. He later worked as a sub-collector in Devikulam. Sriram was suspended from service in 2019 after he was accused in a car hit case that led to the death of journalist KM Basheer. Later, he was reinstated to the health department after a long absence.
Renu Raj cleared the Civil Service Examination in 2014 in her first attempt. Renu, who worked as a sub-collector in Thrissur and Devikulam, is now the district collector of Alappuzha. She also took strict action against illegal constructions and land encroachments while serving as a sub-collector in Devikulam. This is her second marriage.
