Finally, it is once again time for record box office collection figures in Malayalam film industry. As the much hyped movie ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ has lived up to the expectation in terms of occupancy rate, it was time for replacing the day one box office number figure in Mollywood. Producers Gokulam Movies has come up with the day one box office figure of this Nivin Pauly starrer, which stands tall at INR 5.30 Cr. The figure, which is the biggest ever recorded for a Malayalam movie, is also the second biggest in terms of all time day one box office collection figures in Kerala; Baahubali 2 is the only movie, which has managed to score a box office figure, higher than ‘Kochunni’, with a figure of over INR 6 Cr.
Directed by Roshan Andrrews, the movie is off to a stupendous response elsewhere it is released. Opening to more than 1,700 shows across 364 theatres in Kerala, the record breaking performance of ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ has brought the much needed relief for Mollywood, which is trying to replenish from the slumber created by the flood days. The movie has also created record number at Cochin multiplexes as well. The day one figure of the project at Cochin multiplexes stood tall above the rest of the Malayalam films with a figure of INR 19.12 Lakh. With a big weekend and a holiday week on the cards, ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ is sure to script something high this time. Though received mixed response, movie has gone well with the fans of Nivin Pauly as well as superstar Mohanlal, whose extended cameo appearance has literally made fans go frenzy in theatres.
