As was expected ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ opened on a gargantuan note at Kochi multiplexes. The movie marked the highest screen count in Kochi multiplexes for a Malayalam movie in the history, the Nivin Pauly starred movie has received 64 shows on the very first day of its release. Converting the screen count to box office number, the Roshan Andrrews directorial grossed INR 19.12 Lakhs from Kochi multiplexes. Highest ever for a Malayalam movie, the figure however is a distant second to Rajinikanth starred ‘Kabali’ – which made an impossible INR 30.21 Lakh on the opening day.
Though opened to average reviews, the movie however relies heavily on the action sequences and the VFX works. Many note the electrifying screen presence of superstar Mohanlal as the major highlight of the movie. Though it was an extended cameo appearance from the star, theatres had gone mad with his entry. Released in over 350 screens across the state, ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ has also registered a new height for Malayalam cinema in terms of screen count.
