Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan is likely to forward the draft ordinance seeking to remove the governor from the position of chancellor of state universities, to the President of India. He said that he had not seen the ordinance and asserted that he will not be a judge in a move against him.
The CPM-led state government sent the draft ordinance to Raj Bhavan on Saturday. The ordinance aims to remove the powers of the governor as chancellor of universities after seeking legal advice.
Though uncertainty prevails over the ordinance, the government can launch a bill in the assembly. The cabinet is planning to summon a special session for the same in December.
The governor left for Delhi after attending the marriage ceremony of the chief secretary’s daughter, even before Raj Bhavan received the draft ordinance. He will return only on November 20.
