In the continuous attempt, the Kerala government has now sent an ordinance seeking the removal of Governor Arif Mohammed Khan as the chancellor of the state universities to the Raj Bhavan for the governor’s approval.
If Governor refuses to sign the ordinance, the state government will introduce the same as a bill in the Assembly and forward it for the President’s assent.
Earlier, Khan had confirmed that the ordinance will be brought before the President only if it targets his powers. The government thus will not be able to bring a bill when an ordinance is before the president.
The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to bring in an ordinance to remove Governor Arif Mohammad Khan from the post of Chancellor. The state is mulling to place an expert on the post of the Chancellor. The decision came after Governor Arif Mohammad Khan sought the resignations of vice-chancellors of all nine universities in the state.
