DGP Anilkanth said that the ‘Watch Your Neighbour’ project will be implemented under the leadership of the police in collaboration with the residence associations. The plan is to report anything unusual in the neighbours to the police. The project is implemented as a part of Janamaitri Police. Police is hopeful that the project will play a major role in preventing crimes.
The DGP informed that the new plan was decided in a discussion held with the office bearers of the residence association in Kochi. It was also decided in the discussion to extend the awareness programs of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, which focuses on schools and colleges to detect drug users, through the residence associations.
He also said that steps will be taken to speed up the police response to phone calls in emergency situations. At present, if you contact the helpline number 112 for police services, you will get a response within seven minutes. The police is trying to further reduce the time, he added.
The scheme is also designed to ensure the welfare and safety of senior citizens.
