The state government has decided to implement uniform colour code for tourist buses. In a high-level meeting, the transport department agreed to implement the decision from tomorrow. It has also been decided to provide training to tourist bus drivers.
The decision was taken in a high-level meeting called by the transport department to evaluate the investigation report on the accident that took place in Vadakancherry. The 18-page report will be evaluated in the meeting.
The MVD had decided and issued an order that tourist buses should have a uniform color from June. Accordingly, only violet and golden stripes on white were allowed. It was directed that other buses should have new colour code from the time of next fitness test.
However, this rule was not followed and now it will be made mandatory.
Action will also be taken against the school and college authorities who do not comply with the instructions to inform the concerned RTO of the travel details before starting the excursion.
This is part of the tightening of legal procedures in the wake of the Vadakancherry accident. On March 2, 2007, the Department of Education had issued an order following the instructions of the Motor Vehicles Department to completely avoid travel between 9 pm and 6 am.
