Anupama Padmakumar, the third accused in the six-year-old kidnapping case, has been granted bail. The High Court has granted bail to Anupama with conditions. A bench of Justice CS Dias granted conditional bail. Meanwhile, the government had opposed the bail plea arguing that Anupama was the main mastermind of the case. But this was opposed by Anupama’s lawyer. Anupama’s lawyer argued that Anupama has nothing to do with this case and that the first and second accused in the case are her parents and the bail is sought for the purpose of her studies.

Subsequently, bail was granted with conditions such as not to enter Kollam district, to surrender passport, and to appear before the investigating officer on the third Saturday of every month. The court rejected the bail application by accepting the prosecution’s argument that there is a possibility of influencing and intimidating the witnesses if bail is granted. With this, Anupama approached the High Court.
At the same time, the first two accused have not yet submitted their bail applications. To solve the financial crisis, Anupama and her parents beat up the six-year-old girl and demanded ransom. The six-year-old girl was abducted in front of her brother on her way to tuition.
