The lockdown imposed in Kerala as part of Covid control has been extended again. The lockdown was extended to June 16. All existing restrictions will continue. More shops may open on Friday. The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Experts advise that the lockdown should be withdrawn completely after the TPR has dropped below 10. However, as the TPR is increasing as only those with symptoms come for screening, it was suggested that concessions could be given at the lockdown. It was also suggested that restrictions be maintained only in areas where the spread of the disease was high as public life was stagnant.
In the second wave, the TPR decreased rapidly from 30 to 15 but did not decrease significantly thereafter. Subsequently, the conditions were tightened. Due to the confusion in this, there are disputes between the police and the people in many places. No significant steps were taken to remove the ambiguity and confusion in the order which tightened the control.
