How to post-
The Mammootty I knew*
There are some people like this… Those who believe that the other hand should not know what one hand is doing! It is not about anyone else, but about Malayalam’s great actor Mammootty.
A philanthropist bigger than the actor in him who doesn’t see much abnormality in a poor family after giving a surgery costing Rs.10 lakhs for free!
I am writing this post because I have direct knowledge of the time and efforts taken by the great man Mammootty for a common family.
I am sharing with you my first-hand experience of how Mammootty becomes a wonder among those who seek huge publicity even with the help of ten rupees…
Three months ago, I received a phone call from Adv. Anil Nagendran, who is also a state film award winner.
It was said that I was called with high expectations. The matter is nothing else, Bindu, the wife of Sreekumar, a resident of Venjaramood, who has previous experience with painting work at home, needs an urgent heart surgery.
Her husband Sreekumar could not afford the huge amount required for Bindu’s surgery as she suffered a stroke and was paralyzed on one side. The family situation was also deplorable. Though the possibility of free heart surgery schemes under various organizations was explored, it was of no use to Bindu,
Adv. Anil Nagendran hung up the phone. The reason is none other than what Bindu needed was a complicated valve replacement surgery that cost around Rs 10 lakh. Although the possibility of the Karunya plan was explored, I decided to look for another way in parallel, as the delay might put Bindu’s life in jeopardy.
At that thought, a face suddenly came to my mind. When I was studying in law college, that boy who was my junior suddenly became the hero of the college, leaving behind all the greats who walked there.
That old teenager who won the hearts of many. It is none other than the megastar Mammootty who later became the face of Malayalam. My thought is that Mammootty himself, who has become a support to thousands of needy people beyond his acting skills, should be called.
As someone who is intimately familiar with many of Mammootty’s philanthropic projects and has been with him from the very beginning of his first ‘Vashcha’ project, which benefited tens of thousands, I conveyed this request to Mammootty with the freedom of an old senior in law college. The emergency situation was also clarified. The speed of Mammootty’s intervention, who understood the seriousness of the matter, surprised me.
Directing his office to speed up Bindu’s surgery and treatment, Mammootty suggested that the operation be included in the “Hridhyam” project implemented by Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva in collaboration with his charity movement Care and Share International Foundation.
The surgery was successfully completed by a team of expert doctors led by Dr. Shiv K Nair, one of India’s most renowned cardiac surgeons. Today, Bindu is perfectly healthy and happily sitting at home in Venjaramood.
Thank you Mr. Mammootty. May you continue to serve as a hand for tens of thousands….
