Customs officials in Kolkata caught a man trying to smuggle dollar notes inside pan masala packets into Thailand. He tried to smuggle 40,000 dollars (Rs 32.78 lakh) in currencies.
Based on the information provided by the air intelligence unit, after completing the immigration, the customs department was checking the aircraft. An attempt to illegally smuggle US dollars was caught when the passenger’s bags were checked.
Panmasala’s sachet contained two ten-dollar bills folded inside the packet. After carefully tearing the packets and removing the pan masala, the currency notes were neatly folded and filled with some kind of powder and stuck with transparent tape. A trolley bag was full of such packets.
