Chennai: More arrests have been made in the case of a 19-year-old girl being burnt to death for marrying a Dalit youth in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.

The mother was also arrested in the honor killing in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Roja, the mother of the dead girl, was arrested.

The arrest was made after it was found that the girl’s mother Roja was also involved in the conspiracy to commit the murder. They will be produced in the court in the evening.

Yesterday, the police arrested five persons including the girl’s father Perumal in the incident.

19-year-old Aishwari, who married a Dalit youth in Thanjavur, was burnt to death by her father and relatives.

Aishwari who was a classmate and a native of Thanjavur B. Naveen was also in love for a long time. Both of them decided to live together on New Year.

Aishwari’s family, however, did not agree to this marriage. Naveen, an employee of a garment manufacturing company in Tirupur, eventually married Aishwari in the presence of friends and moved to a rented house in Veerapandi.

Meanwhile, Aishwari’s father came to the Perumal Palladam police station on January 2 with a complaint that his daughter was missing. It is alleged that the police who summoned Aishwarya forced her to leave with her father and harassed Naveen.

After five days, Naveen reached the police station again when his friend informed that he suspected that something had happened to Aishwari.

During the subsequent investigation, the police found that Aishwari was burnt to death by her father and four relatives. With this, five people including the father were arrested.

The police said that a detailed investigation is going on in the incident. At the same time, there is a demand to take action against the policemen who are responsible for the caste killing.
