Son beat his mother to death in Kayamkulam. Shantamma (71) was killed by her son in Kayamkulam Puthupally Mahilamuk Panickassery.
In connection with the incident, the younger son Brahma Devan (43) is in the custody of the Kayamkulam police.
This is what the police say about the incident. Shanthamma was drunk and created a ruckus at the Devikulangara family temple near Shanthamma's house.
Shantamma was having a fight with some of the locals while eating at the festival ground. Then the son brought the mother home.
After reaching home, the son Brahma Devan used to beat his mother and kick her in the stomach for causing a ruckus in drunkenness. He also grabbed his mother's head and threw her on the bed.
A crippled Shantamma slept there that night after the beating. In the morning, when the son Brahma called his mother, he learned that he had died.
Then they took the mother to a private hospital in Kayamkulam, making the other children believe that the mother had collapsed.
The hospital officials informed the police after seeing the marks of beating on the body. The post-mortem conducted at Alappuzha Medical College confirmed the incident as a murder.
Kayamkulam Police registered Brahma Deva's arrest.
