Riyadh: Action has been taken against Cristiano Ronaldo who performed obscenely during the match during the fans' calls for Messi. The player was banned for one match. The Saudi Football Federation has proposed to pay a fine in addition to the ban.
Cristiano will miss Thursday's game against Al Hazm with a one-match ban.
The federation has to pay a fine of around two and a quarter lakh rupees (10,000 Saudi Riyals) and the Saudi Pro League club Al Shabab about four and a half lakh rupees (20,000 Saudi Riyals). The penalty is to cover the costs associated with the complaint.
The action was taken by the Saudi Football Federation Disciplinary and Ethics Committee. The federation said that the decision is final and no appeal can be made against it.
The incident that led to the action was during the Saudi Pro League match held last Sunday. Cristiano's Al Nasr won 3-2 against Al Shabaab. Later, there were shouts of 'Messi Messi' from the gallery towards Cristiano.
