Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer ‘Kaduva’ and Suresh Gopi’s ‘Ottakomban’ have been in a legal battle for a while now. ‘Ottakomban’ faced another setback after the Supreme Court dismissed the plea filed against the stay order upheld by the High Court.
The top court noted that there was no need to interfere in the current status of the copyright violation case filed by screenwriter Jinu Abraham, accusing that ‘Ottakomban’ was based on his screenplay. The SC also directed the trial court to make the trial proceedings swifter.
Earlier in April 2021, the Kerala High Court had upheld the district court order restricting the makers of ‘Ottakomban’ from developing the screenplay, producing and releasing the film.
Shaji Kailas directorial ‘Kaduva’ with Prithviraj in the lead role was announced first, written by Jinu Abraham. It was only later that director Mathew Thomas announced ‘Ottakomban’ with Suresh Gopi in the lead role. Apparently, the name of the protagonists of both the movies is Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan. Regarding this Jinu Abraham had filed a suit accusing the makers of ‘Ottakomban’ for copyright violation.
On the other hand, Kaduva is gearing up for its release by May or June 2022. The film is produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames.
